In light of the photobucket hostage situation (ie. pay up $400/yr or all your photos can't be hotlinked), I've decided to re-upload and re-post some significant in situ pictures for the sake of maintaining good historical records. Thank you Kiwiearl for inspiring me to do this!
Hopefully, flickr doesn't "ace out" these photos in the future, but for now I hope those who have never seen these absorb them and learn as much as they can. I think most of these photos are courtesy of Brooks Garcia, and some are from Wes Buckner as well. Wes-if you have any objection towards me posting these, feel free to email me and I'll take them down....just seems like the world should see these.
I think everyone wants to see Leah Wilkerson in all its glory growing in situ! Here's the plant probably in the early 2000's if I had to guess (can't remember what Brooks told me). Today, this is a very overgrown situation, but I think our very own Naturenuts et. al. went over to the wilkerson's bogz in North Walton Co, FL and cleared out some of the cropz to ensure the long term survival of these plants in situ. Look at how amazing this thing is in the wild! Lots of controversy about Leah Wilkerson imposters out there (ie. selfed seedlings, crosses, and straight up other mooreis being sold as LW), so this should help give you a 100% positive ID on the real deal
what an amazing sight:
Photo taken May 2005 by Brooks Garcia....that is, as long as his camera had the right date on it when the photo was taken. I think Sarracenia Leah Wilkerson is in the background of this photo:
Some more Wilkerson Property habitat shots:
Sarracenia Bud Wilkerson:
Some leucos growing on Bud Wilkerson's property, I think this is also from May 2005:
Help me out here guys, I'm getting old....can't remember which clone this is. Bud's Golden boy or something like that?
Beautiful plants thriving on Bud Wilkerson's property:
Now let's go to Washington Co, AL. This site still exists as of 2014 (damn, haven't gone anywhere since Ellie was born!) I still drool over this exact plant, how amazing is this leuco hybrid?!!!
The famous Stone Co, MS alata site, will probably exist for a long time since it's protected:
Same site in the spring with flowers and new pitchers:
Pretty darn impressive when in full bloom:
Same site later in the season when they color up:
The photos below are all from Wes Buckner. Sadly, I was told this site in Northern Florida is now a Walmart:
Most of the landscape used to look like this:
Okay, that's it for now, but hope you enjoyed the pics!
