Hello all. Just joined the forum. I can't wait to look at all the plant photos once I have time. I won't bore you with too many details about me, but will give a little bit of my history. I always have grown cacti for years (still have about 6) and I use to have several orchids. I eventually moved and have less light inside our house now so the orchids stopped doing well and I eventually was reduced to only 2 remaining ones. About a year ago I took my son, GoodKoalie, to California Carnivores. I ended up buying a couple of nice Flavas (one is a large Oreophila x Flava heavy veined and the other is S. Flava). I loved them and since then I have added several others including some pure species and some cool hybrids. I have traded with my son and have quite a collection now. My table in my back yard has filled up and I have started using the ground for growing now. I also have some dewey pines and drosera that I like as well.
At first I was concerned about growing my plants outdoors due to the heat in the summer here in Sacramento and the cold in the winter as I thought the conditions would be to harsh. I quickly learned that Sarracenia do great here. I also think its cool I can grow my few cacti and my carnivorous plants side by side, but with opposite water requirements.
I love my carnivorous plants and check on them everyday to see how they are doing and what they have caught. The amount of insects (including some large hornets) is incredible. My favorite thing about the plants is I like how they die back and look pretty unimpressive, then grow back in the spring and look great. Its like the plant came back from the dead and put out even better leaves than last year.
Anyway, glad to have joined the forum and will post pictures periodically.
