Hello everybody! I'm a younger sarracenia/CP enthusiast at only 14 years old. I've been interested in carnivorous plants for quite some time now, but I've only been getting involved seriously and putting much money/effort into it recently. This is the first online community I've become active in, but I have registered at the ICPS forums and plan on going there later on for my non-sarracenia needs. But who cares, right? On to a little bit about myself:
I first became interested in carnivorous plants when I was maybe... eleven or twelve? I think my first plant was one of those flytraps in the little cup-terrarium deathtraps. I was excited about for a while, but it quickly became boring. My interest was sparked again after I discovered that one of the nurseries my mom liked to go to had a few trays of sarracenia (which I actually learned later were plants Mike sold to the nursery!). I bought one that looked cool to me, which happened to be a Flava rugelii clone AxB, and it did very well. I bought a few more plants here and there and started to read up on Sarracenia, particularly on Barry Rices' carnivorous plant faq. After another short period of time, my mother happened take a walk and discover that someone's front yard had tons of kiddie pools full of sarracenia! I stopped by with my parents and met Mike (meizzwang), who has been my number one source for plants so far, as well as an all-around awesome guy to talk to/work with.
Right now, I am expanding the collection once again and starting to look into growing from seed. I've been particularly interested in oreophilas, even though my oreophila collection is kind of small. I have also been warming up to purpureas as of late, and leucophyllas are another one of my preferred species. My collection is kind of lacking, consisting mainly of Flavas with some HCW leucos, psittacenias, oreophila, purps, and one minor OG thrown in. I do not have any alatas, rubras, or roseas. As far as other CP's go, I have that VFT I got a the nursery I mentioned before (although It's pretty small after some complications last season), a few butterworts, and some drosera (Capensis and binata). I also have a N. talengensis that makes me realize my lack of growing skills, because I got it around 1- 1 1/2 years ago and it's still just as small as when I got it. It's amazing to me that this poor plant is still alive.
Man, that's a lot of writing. If you read that whole thing, I'm flattered.
Thanks for reading!
