I'm happy to announce that Mike King and I will be working together on an import to the USA. I've been working with Mike on these imports for 4 years now. Everything has run smoothly each year so I've decided to expand to a larger audience. The large import is a great way to get some really good plant genetics into the USA while not requiring every grower to engage in a costly and involved import of their own. Here's how it works:
1. Mike operates on a wish list model. You send your requests to Mike for plants and are placed in the queue. Mike's contact is mikeking64@blueyonder.co.uk. Not all plants are available every year but the majority will be. If you don't get a requested plant this year then your name stays in the queue for future years until the plant is available. Here's a link to Mike's grow list: www.mikeking64.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ssar/growlist.htm. Some photos of his plants are available here: www.mikeking64.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ssar/thumbnails/gallery/index.html.
2. Once Mike completes his yearly dividing of plants, he will send a list of your requested plants that are available. He also sends out a pricelist of other plants that are available in excess of wish list requests. You confirm your order and pay Mike directly for the plants.
3. The import of the plants occurs around March. I take care of all the permits, phytosanitary certificates, CITES paperwork, international shipping, import duties, USDA inspection, etc... There will be a $6 per plant charge for this.
4. Plants are forwarded bare-root via USPS Priority mail. Shipping usually runs $6-25 depending on your location and number of plants.
So to summarize, the total costs are [total cost of your plants] + [$6 per plant x # of plants] + domestic shipping charge.
For example, say I ordered two plants from Mike, one medium S. flava (F135) and another medium S. minor (M33). The cost for each of these plants gets quoted as 10 GBP from Mike.
-I would owe 10 GBP x2 = 20GBP to Mike King.
-The import fee would be $6 x 2 = $12
-Domestic shipping charges would be $6. So the total would be $18 to Carnivero.
