I have been asked to give an introduction. I have been on the forum for going on 2 years now, so definitely one of the lurkers as I have read others describe themselves. Several discussions have been useful and of course just signing on regularly to check out the newest beautiful pictures is a must. I got a few nice plants from the 2016 auction. I have had a few plants since about 1985. Picked up a few at a number of the big box stores, a few thru the mail, a couple at local flea markets. Divorcing, moving and basically falling back and punting in the late 90's, I lost all of those. Starting picking up a few more about 2005, same as above. Soon after I probably bought most of what California carnivores, Sarracenia Northwest and Cooks had to offer. A few directly from Brooks G., a few directly from Jerry A. And of course quite a few off ebay. Getting your name on Wesley B. mailing list is a bonanza of choices, even if you miss some at first, you will eventually get them. Of course like many hobbies, they tend to get expensive over time. As you learn more and more, your tastes also improve. Those tend to get even more expensive especially if you eye some of the nicer hybrids of Mike W. and Phil F. After selling a few other items on ebay around 2011, I started selling some excess plants that way. That gave me some extra money to buy more plants and eventually some of the more expensive ones. I made the common mistake of pollinating a lot of seeds that only resulted in fair to average plants. I sell quite a few of those on ebay as well. Mostly to the newbies as I used to be who don't want to or can't spend more than $15 to $25 a plant. And or space issues which I have as well. Many of you may cry foul, this spring I pollinated about 300 blooms and cut off more that twice that. Take my word for it, pretty tough to do. I now have several hundred sarracenia species and (mostly) hybrids, couple of hundred different VFT clones, a dozen Neps, a few pings, a few cephs. I'm sure I have killed twice as many Neps and cephs as I currently have over the years. I have never had much luck with sundews except the hardy ones that come up everywhere now. No greenhouse, but I do keep some plants under lights in my basement as well as overwinter some first year babies there. The photo is of my outdoor setup where I keep all my plants either in the main tubs or the 4" pots of the ones I sell. So hello again from North Carolina and thanks again to all for the informative stuff and the great photos.
