Super n00b questions here as I've never attempted growing orchids. I planted a dormant fringe and some grass pinks in November last year in my bog. Since then some spag has grown over the spots. Will that orchid be able to grow through layer of moss? I'm hesitant to mess with the area bc I was told the plants are very sensitive to root disturbance...
Also, when in the season should I start seeing growth appear?
Agreed - the sphagnum shouldn't impact them at all. My Pogonia grow in pure sphagnum, and in many areas I've seen them growing in pure sphagnum as well (they just develop very long stems to weave through it). I'm not sure which species of fringed orchid you're referring to (probably P. ciliaris?), but those are also seen growing out of pure sphagnum, alongside P. cristata and P. lacera. I'd love to see a couple pics!

adaetz100: Sarracenia purpurea tends to add a lot of red/purple to its offspring, but there are some lovely dark red flava x leucophylla crosses too. Look up 'Royal Ruby' if you're not familiar with it already--it's a natural flava x leuco hybrid
