Hello,
My name is Corey and I live in Southeast Ohio (about 20 minutes from the Ohio River). I haven't seen very many growers on here from this specific area so I thought I would share my experiences on how my plants do throughout the seasons that we have here. Our seasons are very different with the summer reaching temperatures of upwards of 95 degrees with breathtaking humidity and then in the winter it could be hovering around 0 for several days with a foot of snow on the ground for weeks. In the spring and fall we usually have the pacific northwest typical cloudy with a chance of meatballs for weeks with some marinara sauce mixed in (rain). My friend and co-worker got me started with CP's about a year ago and I quickly fell in love with the sarracenia's. Their beauty is just amazing to me and when you combine that with their deadly prowess, they really are much more than just a plant. I just recently started growing them this spring and pretty much got addicted and one plant turned into half a dozen with many more to come! My goal is to have all of the true species at first and some of their variations and sub species and then move into some of the more interesting hybrids and do the crosses myself. I think it would be fun to see what plant would sprout up from seed. I also recently joined as a member of the ICPS, mostly for access to their seed bank once I realized I could get some of the rarer sarracenia seeds (patiently waiting for a HCW packet to pop up on there as it is by far my favorite plant). I look forward to studying and learning new things with all of you and hopefully I can share some of my experiences along the way. Thank you for having me on this forum!
Grow List (As of 6-21-2015)
S. Purpurea ssp. Burkki (first sarracenia, has lots of new growth and definitely the jewel of the collection thus far)
S. Psittacina
S. Leucophylla
S. Minor
S. Flava var. Cut throat (not sure if this is correct definition, it's just what the guy had on the bag I bought it from and I don't have a good pitcher yet to compare it to anything)
S. Oreophila seeds from ICPS seed bank that are in cold strat (can't wait to sow these babies and see little pitchers)
My next acquisition is going to be S. jonesii within the next month.
