Hello Sarraceniaphiles!
Ever since the forum started, recruitment of new members onto the site was one of my main goals and challenges.
Over the years, recruitment on the forums has been made easier because the content on the forum became better and better. But I still try to do what I can here and there.
One way I try to get new people to join the forum, is by scouring instagram photos under the hashtag #sarracenia. Many people on the forum use this hashtag already, but every once in a while something interesting will pop up.
Recently, Joann Beasley, an artist, posted some beautiful artwork of Sarracenia.
And so I complemented her on her artwork, and told her I knew of a place where people might be interested in buying such things.
I recently came upon carnivorous plant connections page as well:
instagram.com/carnivorousplantconnection
Funny thing is, when I tell people about the forum, they are usually very excited to join, and say they'd check it out. Although today, carnivorousplantconnection asked me to sell him on the forum, in the comments sections of his picture here:
I can easily tell him that, amongst our many prestigious members, Mike Wang, Rob Co, Phil, Meadowview, we have the greatest and largest collection on the internet.
I can tell him about the free giveaways, and how easy it will be to obtain new plants
I can tell him how many members are growing plants from seed and have shared cultivation techniques which can bring plants from seedlings to flowering size in two years,
I can tell him how awesome and kind, and giving, and open our community is,
I can tell him about the opportunities he has to sell his plants to our forum members,
and I can tell him that our forum is the forefront of all things Sarracenia, and is the greatest resource currently online with respect to plants with location data,
BUT, I figured this all coming from me wont be so convincing. It would actually be more convincing if many people told him.
There is power in numbers. And so, if you have an instagram account and want to help recruit someone with a potentially awesome collection onto our forum, how about helping me out with a short sentence or two, as a comment to his picture (linked above), about why he should join the forum.
I have had many ideas about where I want the forum to go, and questions about what our members can do. Lets see if this little test of how much power we have in numbers, can bear any fruit!
