Sunbelle-always a pleasure to see your plants, thanks for sharing! I can't believe that here in Northern California, we're about on par with northern Florida in terms of plant growth....we're normally 3-4 weeks behind, but because of global warming (yes, it's not just made up), we've had an unusually hot winter.

We're hundreds of miles to the south of Sarr natural habitat - they wake up earlier for us. Variation on temps seems to be a less important factor, our plants respond more to daylight hours and sun intensity
Our friends in Miami have even more springing to life right now (they seem to be about a week ahead of us about 1 hour to the south).

Well the spider's tenancy quickly paid off as the pitcher caught its first wasps of the season this morning.
I also think the spider had already paralyzed the wasp because the wasp is not moving or struggling at all.
The spider is probably enjoying it awesome meal.
It better POO!!!
LOL you better make sure it POOS!!! In my experience the spiders don't escape. They feast on prey for a while but never get out. Same thing with many flies that fall in and lay eggs - the maggots feast and even form pupae, but will never actually get out of the trap. In the meantime it's a rather gross case of digestion-by-proxy.
Wish I had lizards running around my place like that....
Those who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones that do.

adaetz100: Sarracenia purpurea tends to add a lot of red/purple to its offspring, but there are some lovely dark red flava x leucophylla crosses too. Look up 'Royal Ruby' if you're not familiar with it already--it's a natural flava x leuco hybrid
