Winter Meeting Is January 25, 2014
by Stephen Davis
Date: Saturday, January 25, 2014
Time: Noon-4:00 p.m.
Place: Conservatory of Flowers, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco
Brazil is in chaos, or at least the Brazilian carnivorous plant world has been turned upside down, with many new Drosera species discovered and finally named after 20+ years of intense field explorations. We are going from about 14 to approximately 30 species of Drosera in Brazil. Fernando Rivadavia will be giving us first peek at a brand new species he discovered over Thanksgiving that is among the five largest Drosera in the world. The story of how this species remained undiscovered until a mysterious picture recently showed up on the internet is fascinating. The many new species and name changes will be discussed, including redefinitions of the D. villosa, D. montana, and D. graminifolia complexes. Don't miss this opportunity to talk to the botanist that has spent so many years figuring it all out. Bring a pen and paper as you may have to re-tag some plants after this.
Demonstration/skill session: Dividing Sarracenia.
For directions to the San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers, visit their website at www.conservatoryofflowers.org. Click on the map on the right for directions to parking areas close to the Conservatory where free street parking is usually available. Enter through the side gate on the east side of the Conservatory (on the right as you face the entrance). The meeting room is directly in front of the gate.
The Conservatory has graciously offered their meeting room for our use. The regular admission fee will be waived for BACPS attendees.

I am going, but will be slightly late( hope too see some of you there!!)
Thanks!
-David
