Here are a few rando shots from last Saturday's shindig at CCs. It was the official book release partay for the 2nd edition of the Savage Garden - I've been going to CCs since I was twelve or thirteen and have a very greasy, dog-eared copy of the original kicking around somewhere! Got me a fresh new one, signed and all! There was lots of yummy food and it was good as always to see Peter and Damon.
Discaimer: the plants at CCs are far beyond my poor photography skills. Please excuse the poor composition, awkward lighting, and overall incompleteness of these images; I'm doing my best with my trusty iPhone haha...
Let's kick things off with a GI-TRONIC S. rosea. The purp purp heterophylla on the right is in fact full sized, for scale...this thing will eat your cat.

They have this bowl o' red purps like three feet across in the back:

Near the front entrance is a pot of S. purpurea ssp. purpurea growing in live sphagnum. Not sure which one it is, but Peter said that one of these purps has been in his care since he was a kid - he's had it for almost 40 years! I snapped a shot of this one because it has a beautiful fine yellow margin on its bright red hood:

Shout out to David Green's S. purpurea cake and the epic edible representation of a VFT bog (one CP habitat we enthusiasts were quick to annihilate I might add...)

My girlfriend Shanna (who took many of these shots) color-coordinating her hair with S. flava var. rubricorpora! This plant produces one exceedingly tall (30" plus) pitcher per growth point. Damon uses it in a lot of the CCs hybridizing efforts and if you've ever gotten an FRT from CCs this plant is likely a parent.

A close up of the same plant:

S. flava var. rugellii "Big Lid" It took me a few tries to get this (crappy) shot because the pitchers are about 40" tall and the plant is on a bench, and I'm short. These lids must be 7" across

A fine var. ornata they have kicking around. This thing is bright yellow!
s1329.photobucket.com/user/calenhall/media/IMG_2598_zps589b92e7.jpg.html?sort=3&o=10
A hedge of mixed S. flava. The coppertop with heavy veining under the lid is over 40" tall. NICE!!!
s1329.photobucket.com/user/calenhall/media/IMG_2566_zpsadd9f919.jpg.html?sort=3&o=17
A photo of a select seedling resulting from crossing that great red tube we saw earlier with var. cuprea ex Bill Hoyer. Pretty much an atropurp, at least under greenhouse conditions! I nabbed a couple ones that are just as good
s1329.photobucket.com/user/calenhall/media/IMG_2600_zps5c48aaff.jpg.html?sort=3&o=8
S. alata 'Night' It's so dark it was kinda tough to get a shot of it in the bright greenhouse... ;0

You don't realize how big minor giants really can be until you see this plant
s1329.photobucket.com/user/calenhall/media/IMG_2567_zps6ebdb009.jpg.html?sort=3&o=16
BOOM! Kickin' it off for hybrids we have S. x Umlauftiana!
s1329.photobucket.com/user/calenhall/media/IMG_2591_zps20394546.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2
Not sure what this hybrid is. All I can tell you is that it is very red and very large.

S. x Adrian Slack, a true "vegetable gargoyle" (that's a Savage Garden reference, yo)
s1329.photobucket.com/user/calenhall/media/IMG_2593_zps985b6b13.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0
And check out this little dude we found chilling on S. x 'Mardi Gras'!

Lastly, let's just put all of our pro-pitcher bias aside for a moment and marvel that such things exist in our world:
