S. minor var. okefenokeensis Ware Co, GA clone E, in my opinion, produces some of the best-shaped traps! It has great symmetry throughout the entire leaf structure. The bronzy-red tinge to the "heads" also adds a unique character to it. This clone generally stays small for an okee giant (bigger than a regular minor), but it has historically produce 2ft tall traps! Its medium-vigor growth habit means producing clones takes some time. This clone hasn't been widely distributed as a result, but hopefully, we'll see it in more collections in the near future.

When looking "face to face," these traps look pencil thin!

Wow Mike. I think I had missed seeing this clone before. My "clone I" has turned completely brick red this fall just like you show in these pictures - I'll get a pic up ASAP. I'm not sure if it's due to dropping night time temperatures? We certainly haven't had any really cold nights, but perhaps a few in the mid 40s. The color was becoming very pronounced by the middle of last month though, while night temps were still in the 50s (as they are all summer). On my plant the color has only appeared where the trap surface receives direct sun - the north side of the pitchers as well as narrow streaks where other leaves overlapped them remain green. Can't really tell if it is a color saturation thing more akin to a flava rubricorpora (oh no, not that topic again hee hee! or a "fall color" type phenomenon. A minor var. minor growing right next to the clone I has not developed any additional color at all.
summit: Hey guys, I'm about to sow some seeds and I was curious to know what everyone thinks 'too hot' for Sarracenia seeds would be? Having them in the dome bumps up the temps a bit.

DirtyDivisions: summit I’ve been fine at a constant 95° F under the dome. Once the tiny seedlings have two pitchers I remove the dome and temps go down.

summit: @dirtydivisions Thanks for that! I'm sitting around 87-88F with the dome fully sealed but I wasn't doing that and sacrificing humidity to keep it cooler but I'll go ahead and close it down now!

DirtyDivisions: Yep, Sarracenia will grow anywhere! In your toilet even...if have the proper amount of light etc...

mikee: So I would like to know the different properties for colour - vigor - size etc I don't have the time due to my age so would not be able run over many years can someone help or guide me

mikee: Thanks you chofah, there is a great video from The Pitcher Project with Phil Faulisi this was what I was looking for. However it still appears to be wait and see what results come from the cross. Many thanks

Willy: It would be rather silly to expect totally predictable results from a cross. The individual plants grown from the seeds will vary, sometimes quite a bit, even with carefully protected hand pollination. If you open polinate, the variety may be even greater.

superstressed: Recently purchased a s. purpurea from Mike and I am so impressed with the quality of the plant that arrived. My Purpurea is now one of the larger plants in my collection! Mike also included an beautiful Flava var. for free. I will absolutely buy again.
