I love the shape of the Alata. The more curved the hood and bulbous the throat the better. I got thinking about their size compared to the Flavas and others as I looked ay my collection and those online. Alatas seems to be a bit smaller overall hight, width, and generally the entire upper 3rd of the trap. Does anyone know of the largest or larger breeds of Alatas? Specifically ones that are well, larger in most ways on that whole top part of the plant. Height is a secondary concern to a nice wide bulbous trap to me. Once I get the greenhouse set up I want to start playing with crosses to see if I can get some biggins. Thoughts? Hope that makes any sense.
Alata "Dark Streak" from Jerry Addington has gotten to probably 30" for me and is pretty thick as well. I have a couple clones that get taller, but they're much more spindly.
This photo is from a select seedling of a cross I did with Dark Streak as one of the parents. I'm hoping it will beat it's parent in size, will hopefully know more this fall.
Will you be cloning this fatty?
I'm sure I'll have divisions available in the future, but not for a few years. It's not at vegetative maturity yet and I want to see how well it can perform. The good news is that on top of having great shape and good color, it's the most vigorous clone of the batch.
sanguinearocks101: What are good plants to make hybrids with S. luecophylla with? Im looking for dark colors.

adaetz100: Sarracenia purpurea tends to add a lot of red/purple to its offspring, but there are some lovely dark red flava x leucophylla crosses too. Look up 'Royal Ruby' if you're not familiar with it already--it's a natural flava x leuco hybrid
