Hey everyone, been lurking for awhile but decided to finally post here. I'm kind of an oddball here I think, in that I only got interested in CPs at the ripe old age of 28.
For the last 12+ years, I've watched from a distance (with great confusion) as my older brother salivated over these weird green tubes full of dead bugs. After he'd moved away to Florida, I encountered some really nice looking Sarracenia at a local nursery, and it just clicked. I think it was the first time I'd looked at pitcher plants without psychologically filtering them as "that thing my brother is really into", and just saw them for how awesome they really were. He always told me I'd catch the bug one day, but now I think I AM the bug, and I've been caught!
Here we are a little less than 2 months later, and I've got a humble collection of about 15 plants. I'm really interested in doing some breeding, making new hybrids, and eventually trying my hand at tissue cultures. Some day I'll take a crack at some real mad scientist type stuff and try to do some genome modification, either through mutagen breeding or direct transformation. Some day.
It's obvious that there is just a vast amount of knowledge and experience stored up in these forums. It's enough to make your head spin, but I'm enjoying taking it all in. I've been doing my due diligence reading through as many important-seeming threads as I can - I hope I can contribute some new stuff in time!

adaetz100: Sarracenia purpurea tends to add a lot of red/purple to its offspring, but there are some lovely dark red flava x leucophylla crosses too. Look up 'Royal Ruby' if you're not familiar with it already--it's a natural flava x leuco hybrid
