Here's an event we hope you can attend at Meadowview's premier facility and preserve.
Donor weekend/open house at the Center for Biodiversity at Joseph Pines Preserve
March 24, 1-5 PM March 25, 10-3
We invite you to attend an Open House at our Center for Biodiversity and Joseph Pines Preserve. You will see our amazing, restored longleaf pine/pitcher plant ecosystem on our 232 acre preserve and supporting facilities and operations at the Center for Biodiversity. We are soliciting donors to help match our recent Virginia Land Conservation matching grant of $175,000 to purchase an adjoining 190 acres and will be explaining and showing that conservation effort. RSVP requested. Contact email@example.com or call 804-633-4336. Meet at the Center for Biodiversity located at 22515 Cabin Point Rd., Disputanta, VA 23842.

Here's a picture of our Center for Biodiversity at Joseph Pines in the depths of a winter storm. The place will be considerably more hospitable for the open house on 3/24 and 3/25 and you'll be able to walk directly onto the preserve.
If you haven't read about this, please go to our web site at www.pitcherplant.org and read the news flash about the $175K grant we have been awarded to purchase the adjoining 190 acres at Joseph Pines Preserve. The link is the grant proposal that we won. This is a 40% matching grant and we now need to raise the 60% ($275K) to close the deal. We're trying to get local foundation support, but this is extremely hard to do in Virginia. The fact of the matter is most private foundations in Virginia are not awarding money for land conservation ( and that's a fact since I've been doing a lot of grant applications over many years).
The bottom line is it's going to take a few significant donors to make this happen. If you happen to be one of those lucky individuals, please contact me privately and come out for a visit so I can personally show you what we are trying to do, the need, and how you can help.

Some pictures of Joseph Pines Preserve bogs before and during a prescribed burn. This is THE only protected preserve of native Virginia yellow pitcher plant in Virginia. We now have six populations of indigenous yellow pitcher plant permanently protected on the preserve and they are all doing well under our management. Five of the six populations have been extirpated from their native sites. If we hadn't acted to prevent extinction this germplasm would have been lost forever.
Here's a picture of one of the seepage slopes on the 190 acres we are working on adding to our Joseph Pines Preserve in Sussex County. This site will need a bit of restoration work but it is not problem for us to do. We have been very successful at converting this type of overgrown wetland into prime Virginia pitcher plant bog. Come out and see for yourself at the Open House at Joseph Pines on 3/24-3/25/18.
Open House at Center for Biodiversity March 24-25, 2018. Parcel 6 in map below is the 190 acres we are trying to buy with the matching VLCF grant. We need your donations to make this happen. Wouldn't you like to see more native pink sundew on more Meadowview land?
stu: Hi Mike: I’m pleased to report that the S. rubra wherryi Chatom Giant you sent has arrived in great shape as did the bonus plant from NC. Both are now back under southern skies and are feeling warm, humid, and at home again. Thanks!

adaetz100: Sarracenia purpurea tends to add a lot of red/purple to its offspring, but there are some lovely dark red flava x leucophylla crosses too. Look up 'Royal Ruby' if you're not familiar with it already--it's a natural flava x leuco hybrid
