I meant to get around to this previously, but as with some non priority things it got pushed back and back. Since I have absolutely nothing going on at work I figure I could at least check this off the list.
I'm Heath. I live in Northeast Ohio with my wife and daughter(14). My daughter is the one who got me into fly traps almost two years ago. It started with the typical garden center fly trap which quickly met its demise due to lack of research and well water. Then we got her the crafts store grow from seed kit, which I attempted in a terrarium. We had several sarr seeds germinate, which all but one unfortunately met their demise eventually. I still have one of those growing with my sarrs. Then I ordered some drosera, and it was downhill from there. Now, I'm currently growing dionaea, sarracenia, darlingtonia, heliamphora, drosera, cephalotus, and two neps.
I'm involved with several forums, but only really active on one and occasionally on here. Although as I learn more about sarracenia my activity level on here will increase. I'm also a co-founder of the Northeast Ohio Carnivorous Plant Society. As well as being a member at large on the board with NASC.
I am a setup guy/ floor supervisor/ maintenance/ fabricator/ machinists/jack of all trades/ master of none. Lol. I'll be getting involved with engineering/ programming once everything settles down from the recent buyout of the company I work for, and we get someone who can fill my setup shoes. I'm really excited about that, because that means I get to go to Germany for training.
In my spare time away from my plants I enjoy working on garage projects, such as the car I'm building (not a classic, my pockets aren't that deep). I'm definitely not your typical "plant nerd" since I was never interested in the sciences, I've always been a numbers guy. So I do my best with the labeling, and correct nomenclature (I think that's the word I'm looking for).
I've always been an animal lover as well, boy that doesn't sound right. Lol. I've had all kinds of pets from dogs to raccoons to ferrets, although I always prefer the company of my feline companions.
That's kind of me in a nutshell. Oh yeah and I'm long winded sometimes.
Have a great day and thanks for reading!
