Hi all!
My name is Tobi and I am a Junior at the University of Maine in Orono Maine, and I am studying sustainable horticulture with a minor in business administration. I have grown many Sarracenia in the past, with S. leucophylla and rubra being my favorite, along with the beautiful S. purpurea that is native to the bogs in Southern Maine where I'm from. My collection dwindled over the years, and now that I am in classes where I can design my own experiments and use school funds to purchase supplies I am looking to very much get back into growing Sarracenia.
Does anyone know collectors/growers in the NE region that would be willing to speak with me and maybe give me some ideas and advice? I am open to any information and tips, as I have always been very fascinated with sarracenia, especially the cultivation of them. I have read The Savage Garden and spent days on this forum and youtube learning about the best tips/tricks to cultivation, but I'm just looking for more information on the industry in the North East, as maybe we could all collaborate and help bring the Sarr industry to Maine!
I came up with a brainstorm of an experiment recently and would require about 30 bare root rhizomes for an experiment, does anyone have recommendations for the best place to purchase bare root rhizomes in bulk? I'm looking for as many Leucos, Rubra, and Flava as possible, as they all produce very similar plants in structure (rather than S. purpurea). I'd be happy to explain more details about treatments, hypotheses and more if anyone is interested.
I also have the wonderful opportunity of spending the summer in Oregon with my brother, as I know Oregon has a booming CP industry. If anyone has recommendations and ideas for places that may be interested in a hardworking, knowledgeable intern for the summer, please let me know!
On one last note, I just love this forum. It feels so cool to be talking among some of the best CP growers out there, I hope one day to have a collection like some of you so I can post cool pictures and stories
I hope to get to know you all in the future!
And please feel free to email me at Tobias.lamberts@maine.edu
