I genuinely think Calen is in the wrong business selling Sarracenia. He should go into the stock market, competitive poker, or that game where you guess which cup the ball is under. Because he is a mind reader!
I am hoping to establish a healthy stock of alata and alata hybrids as part of the backbone of my collection. Because I'm balling on a budget (and birthday gift cards), I ordered 1 alata night x sib clone recently. It checked every box I have for a dark alata with great breeding potential.
My purchase came with some wonderful freebies, including an AF areolata that I had my list on for next year!
Do yourself a favor and buy Sarracenia from Calen. Just be prepared to have your mind blown.
I'm overdue in my praise of Calen. The plants I have gotten from him have been excellent, and are all thriving in my care. He's also gone way out of his way to answer some oddball questions for me as I'm still new to the Sarracenia world. I look forward to many more orders!
Working on breeding cold hardy hybrids, here in zone 3 VT using local genetics. Also interested in cultivated pitcher production for the cut flower trade.

Can vouch for steelyphil's statement . Calen's indeed a mind reader! Ordered two plants, but he threw in three of them as bonuses, and they happen to be an AF flava, and the Sandy Creek rubricorpora and Tattnall Co. purp I've been drooling over for months!
Outstanding plants, got a few extras. All much larger than expected, very healthy foliage, crowns and roots. They're all simply fantastic, and Calen himself has been very nice and speedy in his service through the whole process. All expectations exceeded.
Honestly not sure why I haven't swung through here and left some praise yet. Slacking big time on my part. Calen got some of the best sarrs and seedlings out there. Whenever I'm hunting down some rare cultivar or hybrid I always hit up Calen. Top notch seedlings always sent. Never a dud in the batch. Will be purchasing many more times from him I'm sure of. That Sarracenia addiction took over.
Thanks for all the orders guys!! Keep em coming! Just added a few more things to the list I forgot I had! Black Widow, Leah Wilkerson, Big Red and others! (Yeah I know, how did I not notice those lying around?? lol)

Definitely a late review here, but I got an order in from Calen about a month or two again and as always I am blown away by the quality and packing. No pics this time (I was too excited to pot everything up) but I am VERY pleased with everything I purchased! Will definitely be placing another order in the future!
stu: Hi Mike: I’m pleased to report that the S. rubra wherryi Chatom Giant you sent has arrived in great shape as did the bonus plant from NC. Both are now back under southern skies and are feeling warm, humid, and at home again. Thanks!

adaetz100: Sarracenia purpurea tends to add a lot of red/purple to its offspring, but there are some lovely dark red flava x leucophylla crosses too. Look up 'Royal Ruby' if you're not familiar with it already--it's a natural flava x leuco hybrid
