"Hopper" came by to eat. This time he didn't get away. This bug is well over 2 inches long. I slammed it to the ground to knock-em out and it didn't move for awhile. A house sparrow swooped down and picked him up. (Just like in the movie "Bugs Life" amazing activity going on.) Sometimes there will be three or four of these humongous bugs hang-in around munching away at new growth. Fig Beetles are also coming around now. Plants are feeding well but most of the spring pitchers are now wrecked.
Grasshoppers been munching on my plants too, taken out a bunch of new growth especially on plants I've never seen open outside...grrrr!!! When I find them they end up dead and a meal for one of the plants though, so....now if only I could figure out how to get the mantids that are in the yard to stay in the pool and eat them.
Those who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones that do.
stu: Hi Mike: I’m pleased to report that the S. rubra wherryi Chatom Giant you sent has arrived in great shape as did the bonus plant from NC. Both are now back under southern skies and are feeling warm, humid, and at home again. Thanks!

adaetz100: Sarracenia purpurea tends to add a lot of red/purple to its offspring, but there are some lovely dark red flava x leucophylla crosses too. Look up 'Royal Ruby' if you're not familiar with it already--it's a natural flava x leuco hybrid
