Franklin Co, FL is about as east as you can get to finding leucophyllas in situ. Rumor has it, these are native to the area, but since large acreage within Franklin County has been farmed, only little pockets of S. leucophylla exist today. There are several populations in situ, some of which are doing well, and others of which are being overgrown and shaded. Interestingly enough, much of what exists today is from relic populations that survived being plowed.
In cultivation, these leucophyllas are relatively rare and hard to find, unless you contact me Over the years, the collection has been filled with dozens of clones, and many seeds have been grown/propagated as well from the Franklin Co, FL leucos. Some of the seedlings have turned out to be the best in the entire collection, and some of you were lucky enough to get divisions or the only pieces of some amazing red clones.
This population produces outstanding spring and summer pitchers, as well as the most colorful and stunning fall traps! Environment does play a huge role on whether or not you'll get nice spring or summer traps with S. leucophylla, but some populations like the franklin Co, FL plants, seem to be genetically predisposed to performing well earlier in the season.
I believe Phil has used a leucophylla that originated from one of these franklin Co, FL populations as the backbone of his breeding program. Only time will tell what others come up with once they start using these unique genetics.

I culled everything that didn't look great and only kept the best. Check out how red that one is in this photo below:
Believe it or not, this is a side shoot from the main plant. Someone out there has my main mother plant:
Same clone, back view:
Side view, mug shot:
There's also a few clones that have super-sonic vigor, I'm keeping my eye on this one in particular. They're relatively not as colorful now, but I bet the fall pitchers are much more impressive:
Another shot of the same vigorous red clone. Well, maybe I spoke too soon, the red on this clone is pretty solid:
To be continued....there are a few regular white clones from this batch, and I suspect they might be giants!
