S. montana Clone AA is genetically different from the transylvania Co, NC individuals in the collection, although I'm not sure what county it's originally from. In any case, it produces very large pitchers, and looks more "purp-purp" to me than "venosa" like the transylvania Co plants. Does the lid fold over on this clone? Sometimes. When? Whenever it feels like, so it seems!
The pitchers can get big with this variant, much like the larger S. purpurea ssp. purpureas.

I'll be glad when mine gets some size on it. For some reason mine hasnt grown much at all this year. Its just sitting there with last years pitchers and some tiny new pitchers. I'm hoping it speeds up soon. Are these slower to put up new growth than other varieties of purpurea?
These plants typically grow pretty fast, especially the outcrossed F-1 seedlings.
However, when the plants flower, it sometimes zaps a huge amount of energy from them. This is true for all the other purps-I have S. purpurea ssp. purpurea and S. purpurpurea venosa that flowered, but haven't produced a pitcher yet this year!
kayota: how have I only just discovered this forum when I've been raising CPs for 15 years? I'm just getting back into it after accidentally leaving my plants with a crappy roommate and being unable to get them back

summit: Hey guys, I'm about to sow some seeds and I was curious to know what everyone thinks 'too hot' for Sarracenia seeds would be? Having them in the dome bumps up the temps a bit.

DirtyDivisions: summit I’ve been fine at a constant 95° F under the dome. Once the tiny seedlings have two pitchers I remove the dome and temps go down.

summit: @dirtydivisions Thanks for that! I'm sitting around 87-88F with the dome fully sealed but I wasn't doing that and sacrificing humidity to keep it cooler but I'll go ahead and close it down now!
