Gosh! I grew out a pretty large seed batch of S. flava var. cuprea Lois x best clone, and out of hundreds of seedlings, pretty much most of them were gold! A few were standout: one clone turned solid red under optimal conditions, and this clone below, despite having all the leaves chopped off to the ground, colored up like I've never seen before!
The entire body seems to be coppery and the color on the lid is dark and well defined. Anyhow, has anyone ever seen a S. flava var. cuprea like this before?
After seeing these traps below, this might actually be one of the best cupreas in the collection. Jerry Addington told me, "what are you going to do when you get a better clone than S. flava var. cuprea 'best clone.'? C'mon now Jerry, I was in my teens when that name was made, I didn't have the foresight to think that far ahead.....in retrospect, his chocolate top cuprea is also damn nice, although I abused it a bit this year, so it's not looking its best at the moment.
New photos of S. flava var. cuprea 'copper body.' pics taken 4/24/16:
Love that green interior contrasting with the coppery exterior:
LOL "Behold Simi, life....real life, the thing that we have been denied for far too long..." (Akiem screems out the the window): "Good morning my neighbors!!!!!!" (bum in distance): "hey Fu@$ you" Akiem: "YEEEEES...YEEEESSSS, Fu@$ youuuu tooo!"

I think at this point the line between cuprea and atropurpurea has been horribly blurred..... That is some amazing color! Keep waiting for all my plants ,cuprea included, to finally wake up (got frosted last night and new pitchers are ruined, so it'll be a couple weeks yet), but it's never going to hold a candle to THAT thing.....
Those who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones that do.
All nonsense aside, here's some more pics of S. flava var. cuprea (lois x best clone) 'copper body.' There are two plants to the left which are siblings, the copper body clone is in the center of the pic. Photos taken 5/8/16:
So, I did compare the lid of this cuprea to the lid of an atropurpurea: definitely coppery in comparison. At the time, it was a sunny day, and these color forms have some serious glare when the light isn't right, so hopefully in the near future I can snap a comparison pic for you all to see. Anyhow, long story short, the color you see below is what you see in person:

iona: Hello everyone! I was wondering if anyone had extra Pinguicula grandiflora plants or seeds to spare, and they are so difficult to get in the US but think it’d be a great addition to my big garden.
