A few notes on the auction: - We wanted to do an auction to give back, but were unsure of many things, like how to set one up fairly, and such. The admins (david and goodkoalie) have been working hard to set this up, but they have had a lot of help from people who have done auctions before. This year we are donating to the NASC- for their help in setting this up (terraforums helped set this up as well) HOWEVER, next year the organization we donate to will be chosen by members.
-The sarracenia forum t-shirts for 2014 PROFITS were donated to NASC, because that was the organization chosen by members, HOWEVER, that money wasn't a large amount, only $292.32. The Sarracenia forum t-shirt for 2015 will be even better because I learned things I didn't know before, involving colour of the shirts, and how it affects price, involving layouts, and timelines. A similar process will be followed again this year to choose Design, Colour, Price, Organization to donate to, and any other aspects which may need to be considered, and if all goes well in April we hope to open sales. For all those wishing we give back to meadowview, I highly encourage voting for them when the time comes later this month, and making the case for others to vote for them as well.
One thing I learned about t-shirt sales, is that the price of the shirts and ink are inexpensive compared to the price of making the logo "sheets" (they are like plastic sheets with holes cut out and one sheet needs to be made per colour of the shirt). These sheets can be used multiple times though, so the cost per shirt DECREASES, as sales INCREASE. In other words, the last ten shirts we sold did more for the profits than the first 20.
I'd like to thank everyone for their input, and yes, as admins, although you might not see me all the time, we DO listen.
I'd like to thank meadowview for being an active participant here and for keeping us posted on the happenings over at meadowview. I find the uses of drone technology rather interesting, not only in terms of surveying locations, but also of taking quick counts of adult plants via aerial photos, or how close they are to roadways, pollution, or other things.
The admins will be having a discussion on how to handle these things in the future. This is our very first auction, I so hope all goes well. I will probably be posting a plant to auction off on Tuesday, if all goes well. See you all soon!
jonathan Mejia. It was nice of whomever over at terraforums helped set this up, and not to take anything away from them, but the first post over there at TF, under davidgreen's post announcing this forum's auction....was a moderator pointing out that the Sarracenia Forum's auction wasn't "The Official" NASC auction. Hmmm....No one is going to get confused, and even if they do, all the money is going to the same place so what does it matter in the end! So if TF insists it has the corner on "Official" auctions for the NASC, I'm all for voting for another worthy cause next year, to support and host "The Official" auction for. meadowview is here, a worthy cause, and participates. I'll vote for that. Unless someone from the NASC has something they'd like to say about all that.
So is the auction starting today still? If so there won't be that many items to bid on . We really need to push it back at least a week to give people time to post items for bidding and to advertise.
I think so too. We will probably push the bidding period back until Feb. 15 - March 1, but people can still post listings before that. Thanks for putting up some plants Trey! I especially like the x Mitchellenia you have up . I'll get back to you ASAP.

adaetz100: Sarracenia purpurea tends to add a lot of red/purple to its offspring, but there are some lovely dark red flava x leucophylla crosses too. Look up 'Royal Ruby' if you're not familiar with it already--it's a natural flava x leuco hybrid
