Didn't you donate the proceeds to NASC last year? How about giving Meadowview some support this year? Why wasn't there a call this year for potential applicants for the proceeds of the auction? We're constantly buying land to preserve to restore native pitcher plant bogs in Virginia (take a look at our recent newsletters to read about this). Right now we're even negotiating the purchase of another property at our Central VA Preserve that will put us within feet of the native pitcher plant population.
There was a mention last year that Meadowview is paying more for pitcher plant land than purchases by other groups further south. Not so. When we expanded the Joseph Pines Preserve to 232 acres in 2012 our cost/acre was $1098, not a bad deal. I spent a huge amount of time last year securing the purchase of the Center for Biodiversity at Joseph Pines Preserve too, and we now have a bank note of $140K to pay off. We need all the support we can get to continue buying pitcher plant land in a CRITICAL part of the range of the genus where conservation is making a HUGE difference and preventing EXTINCTION.

I can see why you are a little disgruntled meadowview. I'm one for spreading the love also. I didn't even know there was going to be an auction until the post last night. I guess the forum members here no longer have a voice on such matters. Last spring after the Sarracenia Forum Tshirt fund raiser we gave the proceeds to the NASC. If I'm not mistaken, I didn't hear a thank you of ANY kind from anyone over there.................jus' sayin'.

Thanks. Disgruntled is a little bit of a harsh word, just want a shot at the auction proceeds. Spreading the love is a good thing.
We also have an excellent opportunity to really leverage a conservation donation from the auction. Last year we participated in a crowd fund raising effort with our community foundation and other non-profits and raised over $13K, in one day, for our land conservation efforts. The event was called the Community GIVE and will be repeated this year on May 6. Donations on that day also make us eligible for cash prizes and awards (we received $3K in prizes and awards in the 2014 GIVE).

I saw that Meadowview is trying to get a drone. I'd love to help them get that. Or at least help them out with something. What is the last thing the NASC has done for conservation? I never hear anything from them, and the last update on their website is from 9 months ago. Is it too late to say we're going to give to Meadowview instead? There could at least have been a poll asking who we want to donate to. Maybe some people even want to keep the money to support the forum.
I don't want to tread on anyone's toes, but this auction showed up out of almost nowhere, and I'm worried it's going to turn out like the CCPS one. Are there any rules about bidding, payment, or shipping?

I was a little surprised as well. Maybe pushing the auction back a week or so will allow us to iron out all the wrinkles and provide everyone enough time to prepare items to put up for bidding. I really want our auction to be successful and I haven't even advertised the auction on all the CP Facebook pages. What does everyone think?
I agree with rhizomatous/Naturenuts. I personally didn't even think it was going to happen this year, so I didn't make divisions in advance or any of that. Delaying it for a bit might be for the best at this point, but that's just my input.

Hi everyone Thanks for your comments and input. We will come up with a plan and let you all know tomorrow. Hopefully we can all work something out. It sounds like you are working towards a great cause meadowview. David

adaetz100: Sarracenia purpurea tends to add a lot of red/purple to its offspring, but there are some lovely dark red flava x leucophylla crosses too. Look up 'Royal Ruby' if you're not familiar with it already--it's a natural flava x leuco hybrid
