I cull seedlings that aren't growing as vigorous or as colorful as their siblings. I don't have the space to grow each and every plant so I pick out the ones that catch my eye or have an interesting trait. Some of my crosses from last year yielded over 300 seeds. Not all of them will produce plants that are colorful or large growing. It's part of the process of producing outstanding hybrids and cultivars.
Yeah, I was kidding. I know that when you have undesirables it's best just to keep them out of a batch.
And I really know what it's like not to have enough space...
Yeah I did the math and if I keep 5 seedlings from every batch of seedlings I will have 600 plants. . So I see some crosses being sold and given away.
DirtyDivisions: That is a great looking pitcher on that S. 'night sky'! It must be very determined to continue showing off, and I'm glad it did .
Another pitcher opened up on my S. leucophylla "red and white" x S. leucophylla "Avalon beach", and I thought that it looks much better than all of the previous pitchers it has grown, so I had to get a picture of it.
stu: Hi Mike: I’m pleased to report that the S. rubra wherryi Chatom Giant you sent has arrived in great shape as did the bonus plant from NC. Both are now back under southern skies and are feeling warm, humid, and at home again. Thanks!

adaetz100: Sarracenia purpurea tends to add a lot of red/purple to its offspring, but there are some lovely dark red flava x leucophylla crosses too. Look up 'Royal Ruby' if you're not familiar with it already--it's a natural flava x leuco hybrid
