It's Spring Break for a lot of us teachers in Florida so my wonderful girlfriend and I took advantage of the fact that her mother owns a beach house by Rosemary Beach. Since they are only 1.5 hours away from the beach house we decided to visit Yellow River Marsh Preserve State Park and Garçon Point yesterday. I knew there wouldn't be much new pitcher growth and their flowers wouldn't be in bloom yet, but that didn't stop us. The weather was perfect for exploring these beautiful places. First stop, Yellow River Marsh Preserve:
Beautiful while dead and crispy so I know it was a beaut when actively growing:
Some leuc buds rising from the crispiness:
A gang of buds:
These should be bustin' open soon:
This pitcher sure did lots of munching last year:
Finally some new pitcher growth:
Mid-October of last year the site was starting to get crispy already. This is what the site looked like:
Look at that gaping mouth!
Twins with Sarah Jessica Parker faces:
Waiting for some fool to be lured in:
A stunning group of leucs:
Next on the agenda was Garcon Point:
The trails were flooded, but it only made the hike much more enjoyable. Also, it is always good to have a tall girlfriend with eagle-eyes. She's great at spotting pitcher plants in the distant horizion...
...even if they are a pile of crunch in a field that badly needs a prescribed burn:
Buds rising from the crunch:
We were so lucky that someone decided to leave this board here to help us cross:
I found a seed pod and of course helped disperse the seeds in optimal growing spots:
This trip was fun, crispy, and crunchy. I will be back to visit in a month or so and I'll update this thread with many more pics. Time to hit the beach with some cold brews and a honey bun!
