The majority of the flavas and a few of the leucs in my bog have been shooting up flower buds left and right during the past few weeks (see the following thread to check out my bog: sarracenia.proboards.com/post/5499/thread ). As I was thinking about how beautiful these buds would be when fully opened I wondered if the Sarracenia 45 miles east were on the same growing schedule as my horde in my bog. I decided that the next day I would go on a super Saturday search for Sarracenia flowers near Sumatra, FL. At my first destination, I saw very few actively growing Sarracenia, but instead found myself in P. planifolia heaven. All planifolia seen were submerged in 4 inches or so of water. The petite purple flowers of the planifolia hanging over the surface of the water were a beautiful sight to see:
At my next destination I could quickly see that my search for Sarracenia flowers would not go unfounded:
New flava rugelii pitchers with a flower bud:
The first open pitcher seen:
Ready to burst open:

A nice sized rugelii:
Evidence of Mother Nature's bounty last year:
I found a turtle friend!:
Here I am feeding my new friend to a rugelii. Notice the pure fear in his eyes. I think he was screaming in this pic:
There were so many different color variations of flava at this site:
Emerging flava ornatas:
meizzwang, S. flava 'Killer'?:
flava rubricorpora:
Feeling satisfied with my super Saturday search for Sarracenia flowers, along with a rumble in my stomach, I decided to call it a day. On the way out of the bog I saw a few chubby purps and some P. lutea:
and then I saw this beautiful lone flower:
The Sarracenia in my bog are only slightly behind the ones in Sumatra. I can't wait for my horde to catch up with these beautiful specimens that are braving the Florida wild (with one less turtle).
